Before you can help students do better in school, its good to find out what motivates them. That’s the approach our Supports Manager LaDonna took with Zeek.
Zeek was going through a rough patch with his attendance and grades. When LaDonna found out he loved to make things, she found an opportunity to engage him by having him help her build a new bookcase.
“He was super proud,” says LaDonna. “He stood next to the bookcase like he was Superman.”
The sense of accomplishment carried over into school. Working with LaDonna and his teachers, Zeek’s grades got better. He started coming to school on time, too.
A high-school junior, Zeek now has his sights set on graduating and going to vocational school to continue pursuing his passion of building things.
