Carnahan Family Tenacity Awards

Recognizing Students’ Tenacity

Each spring, Communities In Schools of Chicago recognizes hard-working students who don’t normally get attention for school success.

At the beginning of the school year, these students set goals to improve their attendance, behavior, grades, or social and emotional skills. With the help of a dedicated CIS of Chicago Student Supports Manager and other caring adults at their school, they made tremendous progress on their goals.

Since 2014, CIS of Chicago has presented more than 230 students with a Tenacity Award.

Tenacity Award winners receive an iconic “tenacious T-shirt, a gift card, a certificate of achievement, and a personalized celebration at their school.

As important as the cash award is the recognition for students who dug in, stayed hopeful, and progressed on their goals.

When CIS Student Supports Manager Katie first started meeting with India, she suffered from symptoms of anxiety, which created barriers for her socially and academically. With Katie’s support, India has grown in her confidence, improved her grades and attendance, and has even built stronger connections with her peers.
