CBS: Chicago Student to Represent City at Summit

Chicago’s Do the Write Thing 2026 ambassador Damiya Myers and CIS Chief Partnership Engagement Officer Robin Koelsch joined CBS News to discuss Damiya’s essay on violence prevention as part of the 2026 challenge.

During the interview, Damiya shared how she wants more people to be aware of the violence happening in her community and the root causes of youth violence. As she wrote in her essay, “kids go searching, not for trouble, but for belonging.”

Robin said that CIS’ involvement to Do the Write Thing ties directly to our core work of listening to school communities and young people, understanding their needs, and connecting them directly with resources and programs.
