Chicago Tribune: Class of Covid

Jaylin, a CIS student on the Northwest Side, experienced a jarring shift when school closed his freshman year due to the pandemic. He felt isolated and stressed juggling school work with home life. Jaylin had CIS Student Supports Manager Stephanie Estrada in his corner. She checked in on him, helped him stay on track, and provided the social and emotional support Jaylin needed to succeed.

Jaylin and his fellow seniors are part of the ‘Class of Covid,’ students who were freshmen when the pandemic hit and seniors when the public health emergency ended in May.

Learn more about Jaylin’s story and Stephanie’s reflections on the supports that students need most in the article here.
