Chief Operations Officer and Clinical Director Dr. Judith Allen joined ABC 7 for a conversation with John Garcia about mental health concerns for students. “The pandemic has created isolation,” Dr. Allen said. “It’s put kids in situations where they can’t connect within peer groups. They can’t be social.”
To respond to these growing concerns, Communities In Schools of Chicago offers Mental Health First Aid training to help adults recognize when an adolescent is experiencing a mental health crisis. “We want adults to be trained in how to recognize these symptoms, and triage and talk to a child to deescalate the situation,” Dr. Allen said.
