NBC 5: CPS Elementary School Staff Receive Training to Help Students with Mental Health Struggles

What’s the state of mental health in America? According to a new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 90 percent of Americans think that the United States is in a mental health crisis. In Chicago, many of our young people are experiencing mental health challenges daily and need extra supports.

CIS’ Chief Innovation and Communications Officer Bart St. John and Herzl Elementary School Counselor Tracie Blackwell joined NBC Chicago to share how Communities In Schools is empowering adults with Mental Health First Aid training.

The half-day training gives adults the tools to take action. Thanks to Lauren Petty for the interview! Watch here.
